May / June 2014

Over the past few weekends some members of the Community Council have been making an effort to tidy up the look of the village by doing some work up at the Railway Station, the garden area at the corner of Irvine Road and the raised bed outside the Cabin. If you would like to be involved and help out with improving our village then contact us via the website "Contact Us" tab. The fruits of our labours can be seen on the Gallery page photos.

Special thanks to the Masonic Lodge for making the arrangements to supply power, allowing the KCC to pressure wash the wall at the Irvine Road Garden.  We would also like to thank the Kilmaurs Scout Group who after a recent Jamboree donated a selection of plants now displayed outside the Cabin.

Some of our successes over 2014

Irvine Road Gardens    Area was weeded, bushes cut back, paths cleaned, membrane and bark laid, wall pressure washed, summer bedding plants, watering, ongoing grass cutting and weeding. This work was done by community council members but this is OUR community. If you could help please let us know

Railway Platform    Bedding boxes cleared, repaired and treated. Fresh compost, new fence baskets, summer bedding plants and watering. Our Station has been cited as one of the prettiest in Ayrshire.

Area Surrounding Railway Station Network rail responded to request by KCC to clear up litter and uplift maintenance schedule of surrounding grounds.

Village Uplift   Representatives of KCC visited all local retailers who were without exception keen to support and encourage the good work of the group.  This led to businesses removing graffiti, repairing and painting facades of the premises, hanging flower baskets and making further efforts to make their premises more attractive.

Litter  Working with East Ayrshire Council we have identified areas where levels of litter were excessive.  Areas have been cleared extra litter bins installed and campaigns run to educate those causing this eye sore.  EAC have increased the level of attention and time given to the village.

Pedestrian Barriers  East Ayrshire Council at the request of the KCC attended and repaired the pedestrian barrier at the mini round about which had remained in a badly damaged way for almost 2 years.

Dog Fouling  East Ayrshire Council have assisted with extra attention at areas highlighted to them by the KCC.  Police Scotland continue to work with the council on this matter.

Walking Festival  Members of the Kilmaurs Commmunity Council were heavily engaged in arranging this very successful event.  Many of the activities were well attended and much appreciated by many within the community. Your feedback on this and improvements would be appreciated via "Contact Us" Tab

Kilmaurs Community Association

We would like to give you an update on where we are at present with the centre. It may seem that there’s not much progress, but I can assure you there is; it’s just moving very slowly.

We have had several meetings and numerous discussions with East Ayrshire Community Asset Transfer Team regarding taking over the lease of the Library building, and the necessary internal alterations needed to support our group users and also various possible external extensions. E.A. is currently having initial plans drawn up, and we hope to have them to check over soon. There is no set date set as yet for the transition move and THE COMMUNITY CENTRE IS AND WILL BE OPEN FOR BUSINESS AS USUAL UNTIL SUCH TIMES AS THE LIBRARY BUILDING IS READY FOR US TO WALK INTO.

Our AGM will be held on the evening of Tuesday 24th March at 7:30pm in the centre, we would be glad to see you there.

Ann Cairns  (Chairperson)

Community Association AGM was held on Tuesday 24th March at 7.30pm in the Community Centre beside Medical Centre. New Committee was elected and we wish them all the best in their quest to save or improve the Community Centre

Next Community Council Meeting

Our next meeting will be held at 7pm on Tuesday 1st October 2024 within the Masonic Halls, Kilmaurs.

All welcome.
